Live your dreams in Athens!

Acropolis at night
The world knows Athens as the cradle of Western civilization: the city that gave birth to democracy. Our international students discover Athens for what it really is: a vibrant metropolis teeming with culture where students form memories and relationships for life.

As the country capital, Athens is densely populated by 4 million people. Many of the city’s notable sites can be found in the city center, where AUEB is also conveniently located. In addition to the Acropolis, which is visible from the University, the city features many of the country’s important museums in direct vicinity: The National Archaeological Museum, the Acropolis Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Byzantine Museum provide only a few of the possibilities for cultural experiences. Take a simple walk in downtown Athens and the past comes to life before your own eyes.

Athens is also full of exciting, fun and relaxing venues. The Psirri region, with its inner-city authenticity. The adjacent Monastiraki flea market, with its antique stores. Just a few steps further stands Ermou Street, the busiest shopping street of the city. North of Syntagma Square stands Kolonaki, the ever-trendy aristocratic neighborhood where visitors shop and have coffee. Designer boutiques and foreign houses to home-grown wonders, pedestrians’ streets and cafes are scattered all along Kolonaki.

During the summer time Athens comes alive with musical and theatrical events. Indoor and outdoor theatres provide numerous opportunities to catch a memorable performance. Outdoor cinemas and elegant roof-terrace restaurants are also a summer night must in Athens. Naturally, one should not forget the Greek islands, many of which are but a few hours away by boat and brimming with visitors from all over the world during summer.

In the end, Athens is so much more than just a city of historical interest. It is a truly multicultural, authentic metropolis with something for everyone. Our students come to Athens from all over the world; when they leave they are all Athenians.

Accommodation

The program requires that students spend 4 years in Athens, and therefore securing housing is an important parameter of attending the program. Since Greek Universities do not have student dorms for international students, incoming students will need to search for accommodation in Athens prior to their arrival.

The University is actively assisting students with the search for housing. AUEB has developed significant expertise in this area, since already more than 500 international students every year come to AUEB to study, mostly through the Erasmus program. As such, AUEB can direct admitted students to reputable housing agents, introduce them to existing international student networks that provide practical advice, and suggest areas to stay.

AUEB is very conveniently located on Patission Street , in downtown Athens. The various University buildings are all within walking distance of each other, and all of them are easily accessible through public transport (metro and buses). This means that whether students choose to stay around AUEB or a bit further from the center, the University is easily accessible throughout the day.

In terms of dining, all registered students are allowed to eat for free at the University Restaurant, located in the main building on Patission Street.

The program is exclusively addressed to:

  • (a) Foreign citizens of countries in or outside the EU who hold International Baccalaureate or Senior High School Graduate Certificate of a school based abroad and have attended the last two years of their studies in full time status on site.

or

  • (b) Foreign students of countries in or outside the EU who hold International Baccalaureate or Senior High School Graduate Certificate of an international school based in Greece if a) they and their parents do not hold a Greek citizenship and b) have attended the last two years of their studies in full time status on site.
